Bart van Nuys: Fernweh (part 2)

“Fernweh”, literally “farsickness” or “longing for far-off places”, as contrasted with Heimweh (“homesickness, longing for home”). Synonym wanderlust – a desire to travel.
Bart van Nuys creates cut out paintings of houses that are placed in real life settings. The intervention is photographed and removed from the scene. The work makes an actual journey and eventually becomes a souvenir. The photograph is the document.
The “Fernweh” show in 1mes1artista is a solo continuation of a group exhibition with the same title that took place in December 2016 in Brussels, Belgium
The moving and placing of the houses has an element of migration. Its a craving for the unknown with the known as a weight on its back. The seize and shape of the work deal with its changing environment. Confronted with a choice of adapting or not.
