Beatriz Zamora: El Negro

Beatriz Zamora’s work crystallises black as the visible, material, and conceptual axis of her painting. If black is not merely the absence of light – in its most traditional definition – but the existence of space, Zamora uses it to create structure and reflection, drawing from her research into black materials in nature. Her findings demonstrate that, just as those who live in snowy regions can distinguish shades of white, so too can shades of black be discerned: the vital colour of the Earth that inhabits its depths and resonates within us.
