Bosco Sodi: Las Tinieblas Sobre la Faz de la Tierra
Galería Hilario Galguera is pleased to present Las tinieblas sobre la faz de la tierra, a solo exhibition by artist Bosco Sodi, that brings together 50 new works. The exhibition opens on February 5th at 11:00am and will be open to the public until March 30th, 2019.
Bosco Sodi’s work is to be confronted through experience. His epic scaled paintings and sculptures connect with the viewer by evoking mysticism, contemplation and meditation.
In his work, Sodi uses pigment, clay and mud, thus deriving from many of the contemporary, conceptual practices. His paintings and sculptures are not abstract pieces, but massive entities, that reflect time, the brutal-nature of the artist, the environment in which they were created and the essence of our world in changing times.
The exhibition starts from a constant reflection of the artist of the duality of life, the balance between light and darkness, life and death and the opposing powers that coexist as discussions for debate.
In addition to the pictorial works, the exhibition will present a series of clay pieces made using traditional techniques of handcrafted manufacturing, at his studio on the coast of Oaxaca. These monumental works, of complex production and transportation, result in an almost absurd poetic gesture, catalyzing the public’s experience to manifest as the very notion of strength, power and brutality.
In the words of the artist:
“I wanted the viewer to feel that lack of color and focus more on the fight of opposites, in the battle between the two colors, one trying to conquer the other…”
