César Martínez Silva: The Idea and the Odyssey
Artist: César Martínez
Curator: Gloria Maldonado Ansó
César Martínez Silva (1962) – installation artist, creator of sculptural events, art-object maker, cook, workshop artist, university professor, and artivist – is one of Mexico’s most expressive and astonishing contemporary artists.
The exhibition presents over four decades of his work, showcasing a wide range of artistic expressions, including ephemeral and inflatable sculptures, collages, gunpowder drawings, and a comprehensive record of his artivist actions responding to political circumstances and events.
His work is distinguished by its versatility and originality, as well as an inexhaustible willingness to experiment with unusual materials. His iconoclastic and audacious discourse is complemented by a keen ability to create highly personal poetry, characterised by a sense of humour defined by histrionic actions, ingenious puns, invented or compound words, and contradictions.
