“Christs in Prison” explores the artistic production of David Alfaro Siqueiros with Christ as a central figure, whom the muralist regarded as a prisoner of conscience. The exhibition reveals a little-known aspect of an artist who was a staunch atheist but, through the curator’s research, uncovers the link between Siqueiros’ Marxist vision and the figure of Christ as a “political prisoner in an attitude of protest”, alongside the social and political activism of priests connected to Liberation Theology.
