Collection Museo Tamayo

Museo Tamayo, Paseo de la Reforma 51, Bosque de Chapultepec, Miguel Hidalgo

The international modern and contemporary art collection of Museo Tamayo was initiated by Rufino Tamayo himself, along with his wife Olga. Tamayo gathered approximately 300 artworks for this collection, mainly acquiring the works throughout the 1970s, as a synthesis of the avant-garde production of the second half of the 20th century.

After the inauguration of the museum in 1981, and particularly since 1990’s, public and private efforts have allowed for a continuity to Rufino Tamayo’s vision, starting and supporting a facet of the collection committed to the art of our present. Now, the collection gathers more than 600 artworks, covering a variety of techniques, subjects and discourses.
