Fritzia Irízar: Xcambó, Estados del Agua
Fritzia Irízar’s artistic practice often centres on questioning the economic and symbolic value of nature’s resources. The exhibition is titled Xcambó, after an ancient Mayan city that was an important economic enclave. The name means “Heavenly Crocodile”. Xcambó was a deity who controlled the waters, caused floods, and oversaw the underground and underworld waters.
Building on the symbolism of Xcambó, Fritzia presents three installations reflecting different states of water. She explores the value of this element as an economic resource, from the memory of our daily relationship with water to our attachment to seas, rivers, lakes, swimming pools, and puddles. The exhibition reveals how the current crisis represents not only a material loss but also a deeply emotional and symbolic one.
This exhibition marks the beginning of MARSO’s fifteenth anniversary celebrations, which will continue with various activities throughout the year.
