Gabriel Garcilazo

Proyectos Monclova, Calle Lamartine 415, Polanco

The Mexican artist Gabriel Garcilazo (Cuernavaca, 1980) presents a visual and quantitative memorial of the thousands of massacres linked to drug trafficking in Mexico. His project constitutes an act of resistance against oblivion and the normalization of systemic violence.

The exhibition is composed of high-temperature, hand-painted ceramic pieces, each of which records a specific event: place, date, and symbolic reference. The artist incorporates elements from the pre-Columbian imaginary and from the visuality of codices, where violence is represented in an almost schematic manner, creating tension between the aesthetics of the souvenir and the rawness of everyday horror.
