Geles Cabrera: Partituras corporales
The exhibition offers a critical review of the career of Geles Cabrera (Mexico City, 1926), one of Mexico’s first professional sculptors. Curated by Joshua Sánchez, Chief Curator at the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes, it brings together around 100 works spanning more than seven decades, highlighting the relationship between body, space, and movement. The show is organised in three thematic sections: “Partituras corporales” explores her dynamic sculptural language centred on the human body; “Coreografía escultórica” examines her sculptures as spaces of movement and rhythm; and “Museo Escultórico” revisits the pioneering museum she founded in 1966. The exhibition includes key works such as “Retrato metafísico de Geles Cabrera” (1977) by Mathias Goeritz, “Perfil del viento” (1965), and pieces from “Formas Ambientales” (1971), as well as documentation of her collaboration with the GUCADIGOSE group. A catalogue and public programme accompany the exhibition, exploring Cabrera’s influence on sculpture, dance, and architecture.
