The MUAC presents the first exhibition of the German artist in Latin America. Among his works he highlights Totes Haus u r, work for which won the Golden Lion in 2001 at the Venice Biennale. In it, Schneider enters the spaces of his native house in Rheydt (Germany) and moves, literally walls, to the museum space.
Schneider challenges architectural logic and questions the limits of space through this construction and reconstruction of his house that he has repeated obsessively for 15 years, and in this way addresses the dialectic of private and public space.
The spaces that he proposes dislocate the idea of peaceful housing, and beyond the house as a space of recollection and protection, these are presented as disquieting places that baffle, disturb and suffocate us. It is from the memory and the memory that the artist activates the space to propose a set of positions and configure an experience of temporal dislocation and space.
