Ira Lombardía: Lecciones de Geometría
Curator: María Santoyo
Artist: Ira Lombardía
Ira Lombardía’s research has remained steadfast in a direction that we would now call post-photographic, but which transcends any categorisation. Her methodology begins with the systematic questioning of hegemonic paradigms: those inherited from Enlightenment thought, European postmodernism, and post-structuralism, which have shaped contemporary artistic practice to the point of rendering it lifeless; but also political models, more or less sophisticated, designed to preserve the established power, based on a Darwinian, capitalist, patriarchal, and pyramid-like vision of society. These models are reflected in the exploitation of the land and sea, of women and of people from the Global South, also viewed as resources. The first lesson in geometry: the pyramid.
