Joaquín Stacey-Calle: Divine Simulacra
Curator: Luis Enrique Zela-Koort
Artist: Joaquín Stacey-Calle
For Mexico Art Week 2025, N.A.S.A.L presents “Divine Simulacra”, a solo show by Joaquín Stacey-Calle (b. 2000, Quito, Ecuador), an interdisciplinary artist exploring expanded forms of painting and its relationship with the image, surface, and body. Joaquin paints ambiguously ceremonial and intimate scenes, transposing the divine and the everyday as a metaphysical exercise and an intimate approach to life.
Nothing exists in isolation from the divine or nature; therefore, all representations are incomplete and must be acknowledged as such. By erasing parts of the image, leaving the surface exposed, or working on porous and permeable materials, Stacey-Calle’s installation and pictorial project invites permeable relationships with the world. It calls for perceptions that challenge hermetic and normative narratives, making space for new embodiments and desires.
