Julião Sarmento: Una forma extrema de privacidad

The Carrillo Gil Museum of Art presents the first Julião Sarmento exhibition in Mexico, Una forma extrema de privacidad. Carlos E. Palacios, curator of the exhibition, has collected some very representative pieces of his work from the past 17 years, from 1995-2012. Sarmento’s style is embodied in paintings, prints, installations, videos and performances of great sensitivity and purity, that reflects on human figure and architecture. These issues manifest from an immanence of the gesture and as detonators of visual concepts such as memory, sexuality and the unconscious. The themes take on a poetic force full of suggestions, which activate in the viewer a very special and intimate relationship with the work.

Julião Sarmento (Lisbon, Portugal, 1948), works with different mediums: sculpture, painting, video and performance, also including site-specific projects. He has participated to the Venice Biennale three times, being representative of Portugal in 1997. He has also appeared twice in Kassel Documenta.
