Luis Felipe Ortega: Y Donde Estás (Es Donde No Estás)
The pieces included in this exhibition explore the relationship between landscape and geometry, a relationship Luis Felipe Ortega has been investigating for the past ten years through diverse media, languages, formats, and materials. In creating these pieces, he always work with temporal processes, layering various artistic gestures and geometric forms. He also engage in appropriations and dialogues with other artists. The result approaches the idea and form of the horizon— a certain kind of unstable horizon, or rather, one destabilised by the weight of geometry and the rapid strokes of pencil and graphite, by pigments and primary colours.
Considering the use of oil paint, always dark, it consistently appeals to the search for colour and the tension generated by lines placed on dense masses of material. The exhibition presents a selection of drawings, paintings, and sculptures generated by lines on planes, geometries on images of flowers, threads, plumb lines, stones, and other objects found in the gallery space, encouraging the visitor’s journey to branch out from the place where they are, yet are not.
