Marsica Fossati: Space is a Magic Place (But Earth is Better)
Curator: Dakin Hart
Artist: Marsica Fossati
The artist presents three works: “Meteorite”, “Starship”, and “Temazcal”. These celestial creations, imagined as having landed on Earth from space, challenge perceptions and invite viewers to explore the intersection of the organic and the sci-fi. They prompt reflection on humanity’s origins, the wisdom it has gained, and how best to preserve it.
The works are inspired by a narrative where alien spacecraft, propelled by advanced technology, journeyed across galaxies to Earth. These extraterrestrial beings, recognizing the potential within humanity, sought to enlighten rather than conquer. They shared knowledge of rituals, magic, and spiritual disciplines rooted in reverence for Earth’s elements—fire, water, air, and earth.
Central to this story is the Temazcal, a sacred space for transformation. Aliens revealed the power of volcanic stones, which, when heated, release the earth’s primal energy. Within the Temazcal’s steam and heat, humans could purify body and spirit, connecting with the forces of creation.
The artworks reinterpret this mythology, symbolizing humanity’s spiritual awakening and its enduring quest for enlightenment.
