Martín Chambi

Museo Tamayo, Av. P.º de la Reforma 51, Polanco, Bosque de Chapultepec I Secc, Miguel Hidalgo

The Jan Mulder Collection includes both contemporary works and old copies of authors, mostly Latin American. A significant part of the collection is composed of images captured by Martín Chambi (Coasa, 1891- Cuzco, 1973), of indigenous origin, who through his lens established a new and unifying gaze on Peru.
The photographs of Chambi portray vestiges of the Inca civilization, as well as the life of the Andean communities at the beginning of the 20th century. In this exhibition, in addition to works by the Peruvian photographer, there will be pieces by prominent photographers from Chambi who visited and photographed the same areas and communities, such as Luigi Domenico Gismondi, Irving Penn, Werner Bischof, Herbert Kirchhoff, Pierre Verger, Eugene Harris and Robert Frank.
