Néstor Jiménez: Uno entre millones
Through seven works in various formats—including easel painting, collage, ceramic sculpture, kinetic sculpture, and mural painting—Jiménez traces a familiar story: key moments in the life of a working-class man. The exhibition takes the ambiguous phrase “Uno entre millones” as its title, reflecting what Jiménez calls the “epic of an ordinary man.” This intimate, tender epic also explores a vulnerable, fluid masculinity, caught between life conditions shaped by industrial capitalism and an emerging reality defined by the dematerialisation of labour in the digital service economy, where the “ordinary man” is increasingly replaced by artificial intelligence. In this context, Jiménez’s works emphasise the persistent materiality of things, using recycled and construction materials such as cement and plywood. The brutalist reinvention of urban forms links his pictorial work to the polyangular mural techniques of David Alfaro Siqueiros, revisiting the contradictory reflections on ideology, class, and access to social welfare embedded in Mexican muralism, now viewed through a lens that is both personal and political.
