On the Tip of the Tongue
A sense that something has been lost or remains unsaid reverberates throughout the work of Jeffly Gabriela Molina, Kristian Bruce and Ana Segovia. Shifting meaning is pictorially portrayed in work grounded in the affect and associations of ordinary objects, interactions, language and ultimately communication. Molina’s small, poetic gestures turn mundane everyday objects into loaded symbols that convey both belonging and loss. Segovia’s stills complicate interactions, questioning expectations of gender and the “other” in intentionally unsettling and unfinished moments. Meanwhile, Bruce’s work intentionally creates montages of the nondescript and the banal in an exercise that creates webs of meaning through the seemingly disconnected imagery.
