This exhibition brings together artists who have questioned the formalisation of cartography by subverting the writing of maps and proposing alternative representations of territory. Although historically maps have been conceived as precise and objective tools for ordering the world, cartography also serves as an instrument of control and appropriation. As the writer Estrella de Diego mentions, the map becomes a cultural convention of a given power and a translation of a hegemonic vision. In this show, maps not only speak of the limits or scale of a territory, but also reveal the colonial, sociopolitical, and affective conditions of a society.
