Paola Dávila: Schrebergärten
“Schrebergärten” [allotment gardens] are little community gardens that begun to appear in the European industrial cities during the second half of 20th century.
The name changes according to the region, in Austria and Germany are called Schrebergarten for the surname of his creator, Dr. Moritz Schreber (Germany, 1808), who conceived and implemented the first of them, even if those gardens begun more popular after his death.
Dr. Schreber also wrote a bunch of books in which he included drawings of orthopedic equipments: Schreber thought up a sort of social orthopedy.
The project consists in the comparing the fascism and violence of Schreber’s educational system, with the amazing gardens that still bring his name. To these aim, a set of pieces juxtaposes the drawing with photographs of the Schrebergärten.
