Pierre and Gilles: The Construction of the Symbol

The first solo exhibition by the French artist couple Pierre et Gilles in Mexico,  brings together nearly 100 works created over five decades, in which photography and painting merge into exuberant portraits rich in symbolism.

Since the late seventies, Pierre and Gilles have built a unique visual universe: Pierre captures figures from music, fashion and nightlife, while Gilles transforms each image with paint and decorative elements, turning it into a vibrant and fantastical scene.

The result is a series of portraits that oscillate between pop and sacred, queer and classical, intimate and allegorical.
