Raura Oblitas: Brillo Solar
Raura Oblitas continually redefines space: her actions reveal tensions and problems rooted in sculptural, architectural, and urban frameworks.
Concrete, marble, and steel dominate her practice, which probes notions of illegality, clandestinity, and parasitic occupation. In this exhibition the artist turns to what she calls radical architectures—structures she associates with bunkers, tunnels, and other subterranean typologies. For Oblitas, these references serve as tools for reflecting on a body pushed to its limits, shaped by the oppressive conditions encountered when moving through such environments.
Taking the gallery’s own architecture and materiality as a starting point, Raura constructs a spatial exercise centred on these forms, placing the viewer directly within the contained space.
In this exhibition, the artist reshapes the site through a cement block, two metal walls set in dialogue, and two scale models projecting from the wall. “Brillo Solar” thus contains an oxymoron: these telluric environments are, in truth, worlds far removed from the light of any radiant sun.
