Salón Independiente
The exhibition is the result of ongoing archival researches to make accessible to the public historiographic documents and reconstructions of the three exhibitions organised by the “Salón Independiente” from 1968 to 1970. The latter has been one of the most important initiatives to influence artistic practice in Mexico, bringing together artists from different aesthetic and political positions, which worked on original projects aimed to innovate artistic languages and experiment with non-traditional media. The Salon was born, in particular, as alternative to the institutional circuit of commercial galleries and provided artists with the possibility to develop joint and experimental initiatives, which influenced Mexico’s more recent artistic history.
