Sofía Táboas: Azul Extensivo

This installation in large format is integrated by crystals in different shades of blue that will occupy the main wall of the South Gallery and its reflection of the surrounding space. The work of Sofía Táboas has to do with her interest in various materials such as plastic, building elements, swimming pool mosaics, leather, stones and paper, among others. She frequently intensifies the characteristics of the same isolating, contrasting or building with them, facilities and sculptural proposals.

The creative process does not transform the material into another, but deepens the essence of it to enhance them. Sometimes your glass in sight becomes water; In turn, water on paper becomes an abstract landscape. The intention is not to transfigure but to release the possibilities of matter: in that flow the results sensitize the senses, appeal to the touch. Detailed observation is inevitable.

Her research theme is space, natural and fabricated; And how it is constructed, transformed, thought and perceived. The lines of work she has developed are defined by observing the elements present in his work: living or artificial plants, mosaics and equipment for swimming pools, building materials, plastic and bright materials, as well as sculptures with fire and light, among others.

The artist uses these elements for the construction of installations and passable structures. Her practice, in many cases, generates a threshold or limit between diverse elements that can be dissimilar or even irreconcilable. These stylistic decisions of the work are likely to form habitats, perceptual and movement exercises, and even new protozoan lives. Táboas works on the basis of contrasts despite the formal sobriety that characterizes her work and which links her projects with the povera and neo concrete repertoire.
