Tacita Dean Solo Show
Museo Tamayo presents a Tacita Dean solo show,. The English artist lives and works in Berlin. Trained as a painter, Dean mostly works with16 or 35 mm analogue film: the quality of the film allows her to operate on it, in a working process directed to a production that is more plastic than cinematographic, exploring the materiality of celluloid itself.
The monographic exhibition “Tacita Dean” at the Tamayo Museum, is her first ever in Mexico: the result of a working project in several mediums in which Dean presents some recent paintings, as well as a wide selection of her most interesting films in 16mm and others produced expressly for this exhibition, in order to show the relevance of pictorial work in the development of her production.
With the same attention an archaeologist or a restorer approaches an artifact, Dean’s work is infused with a sense of historical apprehension: through documents and objects or constructions on the verge of disappearance, the artist wants to analyse concepts as time and chance, and how they determine our interpretation of past events, establishing in many of her artworks a relationship between what is absent and the act of looking.
