The Gesture and the Invisible
Opening the Museo Tamayo 2026’s programme, this group exhibition explores movement as a vital force capable of generating energy, action, and collective resonance. Drawing from the principle that every action produces an opposing reaction, the exhibition foregrounds the power of motion and its capacity to activate individual and shared experiences.
Set against a contemporary condition marked by increasing physical immobility – shaped by automation and digital technologies – the exhibition reflects on the often-overlooked biological necessity of movement. Across human, animal, and other living systems, bodily activity is tied to survival, while repetitive or regulated movement can produce unintended choreographic patterns.
Featuring works by Mexican and international artists from multiple generations, the exhibition invites audiences to rediscover the potential of bodily action, both individual and collective.
