The Uncomfortable Giant

A very long roll of tied totora travels from Lake Titicaca, twisting its way into Liga’s 30 m² space, where it will rest for four months. The piece is an elongated version of the traditional benches made on the floating islands of the Uros in Puno. It has a corporeal quality; it resembles the body of a massive, ancient eel that dwells at the bottom of the lake. This giant, coming from afar, from the water, exists in tension with the space that contains it, reminding us of the tensions and contradictions of our contemporary condition.
