A Personal View on High Fashion & Street Style:Photographs from the Nicola Erni Collection, 1930s to Now
The Norton Art Museum is hosting a major exhibition of fashion photography.
The exhibition revolves around the world of fashion and street style, explored by Nicola Erni, one of the most important collector of fashion photography.
The artist presents a comprehensive collection of more than 250 photographs, for the first time in a public institution. The displayed work includes street style and high fashion photographies by artists such as Richard Avedon, Tina Barney, Guy Bourdin, Arthur Elgort, Hiro, Horst P. Horst, Peter Lindbergh, Steven Meisel, Tyler Mitchell, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Cindy Sherman, Albert Watson, and Esther Haase.
The exhibition includes artworks by artists like Harry Callahan, Lee Friedlander, Anthony Hernandez, Helen Levitt, Garry Winogrand as well as Bill Cunningham and Scott Schuman. The work is shown in a thematical way and it is dived into sections like “he New Look, Fiction & Fantasy, Unreal, or Unfiltered”. Additionally, it includes backstage material like rare vintage prints, large-format photographs, Polaroids, original collages and portraits of models and designers from the 1930s to this day. Many of the prints are commissioned by the artist or produced for the Nicola Erni collection.
