Anselm Kiefer: Steigend Steigend Sinke Nieder

The Margulies Collection’s commitment to Anselm Kiefer’s work is well known. This year, during Art Basel Miami Beach, a new large scale installation will be presented at The Warehouse. To host this massive art piece, a new room was added and the entrance was redesigned.

The desire to stage this exhibition, in addition to the permanent display of the artist’s works, was born after Martin Z. Margulies and curator Katherine Hinds’ visit to Kiefer’s studio at the beginning of 2016. The artist has been working on this installation since 2009.

“When I saw the work in Kiefer’s studio, I felt it perfectly complimented both the impressive size and power of the other installations in the collection,” states Margulies.

The new work still focuses on the artist’s renowned use of both natural and industrial materials which results in a complex visual experience.
The materials used for this work were found after the demolition of Rue des Archives in Paris.
