Bas van Beek: Shameless
Designer and artist, Bas van Beek has created an immersive exhibition for the Wolfsonian-FIU titled Shameless.
The exhibition features Van Beek’s new work, installations derived from the Wolfsonian’s collection and artworks from Het Nieuwe Instituut, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Van Abbemuseum, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Kunstmuseum Den Haag.
Bas van Beek, known for his dynamic reorganisation of historical design, ignores traditional boundaries by exploring the relationship between ‘old’ and ‘new’ and transforming admired and familiar artifacts into the latest, contemporary works. Intrigued by the richness and variety of existing material, he reconsiders form, function, and meaning by teasing out the work of artists of the past. Van Beek’s project is the latest in an ongoing series by the Wolfsonian that involves contemporary artists and designers reinterpreting its iconic collection and the building.
