Carnival of Color

An exhibition of works by advanced IPC Visual Lab photojournalism students whose images document the vibrant, colorful life characteristic of South Florida.

Students are taught to think of each project as a concise statement of artistic, documentary, and/or journalistic intent. Each photo emphasizes color and how it makes our lives rich in its intensity by gathering ideas in its strata and depth while defining more than just a mood – hence color is memory.

A section of the exhibition will be a photo essay depicting Carnival Miami 2013. Introduction by curator and Pulitzer Prize winning, Miami Herald photojournalist, Carl Juste.

Color is emotions wrapped in feelings, a beauty given to this world that we cannot imagine ever living without,” expresses Juste in his Curator´s statement. “Color makes our lives rich in its intensity by gathering ideas in its strata and depth while defining more than just a mood, hence color is memory.”

The exhibiting photographers are Nancy Ancrum; Anthony Harris; Tomas Hauff; Nina Jackson; Jennifer Kay; Andriana Mereuta; Jenny Romney; Marco Tejada; Zeus Shama; Gina Valenti. Some students are already working in media professions while others wish to further develop either professional or recreational photojournalism skills.

The IPC Visual Lab offers a 10-week photography, total immersion program which is designed to provide instruction and hands-on training in the art of digital photography. Students are encouraged to be creative, but are also taught to think of each project as a concise statement of artistic, documentary, and/or journalistic intent.
