Cecilia Vicuña: About to Happen

Chilean-born artist Cecilia Vicuña has her first U.S. major solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami (MOCA).

“Cecilia Vicuña: About to Happen” opens on the occasion of Miami Art Week 2019, celebrating the fluid practice of the artist, ranging across performance, sculpture, drawing, video, text, and site-specific installations.

Spanning her forty-year career, the pieces on view express Vicuña’s vision of the human relationship with land and sea, climate change and economic and environmental concerns of the 21st century, while borrowing elements from land art, poetry and feminist practices. Highlights of the exhibition are the artist’s paintings – Vicuña began to paint during the 60s to return episodically to this practice – and a selection of her “precario sculptures”, made of fragile fragments, such as bits of wood, thread, and other found objects.
