Convergences / Divergences
The exhibition “Convergences / Divergences” establishes a parallel between two collections of art, exploring the possible links between them. The occasion arises from the acquiring by the Juan Carlos Maldonado Art Collection of the most comprehensive set of indigenous Ye’Kwana pieces, collected by anthropologist Charles Brewer-Carías during the 1960s.
The merging of the new pieces in the permanent collection generates an original dialogue between two opposite universes, highlighting the points of contact of the artistic production of the Ye’Kwana tribe and some of the iconic pieces of Western geometric abstraction in the collection. The show represents the chance to deepen the research on the links of contemporary art with the symbolisms of ancient cultures.
