“For Those in Peril on the Sea” (2011) was firstly presented in 2013 as part of the inaugural programme of the Pérez Art Museum. The installation consists of dozens of scaled-down replicas of ships suspended from the ceiling, recalling a massive exodus. The piece alludes to the waves of immigration—particularly from the Caribbean, and specifically by sea recurring in Miami’s history. For this reason and significance for the South Florida community, “For Those in Peril on the Sea” is now a powerful part of the permanente collection of the museum.
