Lucy Bull: The Garden of Forking Paths
The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, presents “The Garden of Forking Paths”, the first U.S. museum exhibition of Los Angeles–based painter Lucy Bull. Known for her vibrant abstract paintings, Bull explores the formal and sensory dimensions of the medium, crafting dynamic compositions where exuberant colours and elusive forms interact in constant tension. Her works blur boundaries between landscapes and psychic spaces, offering a shifting interplay of density and transparency, reference and atmosphere.
The exhibition features sixteen paintings from 2019 to 2024, including new large-scale horizontal works, each over ten feet wide, shown together for the first time. Complementing these are vertical paintings that chart Bull’s artistic evolution over the last decade. Her pieces amplify viewers’ perception, creating immersive experiences through optical overload and emotional resonance.
Bull also debuts a stairwell commission at ICA Miami, on view through September 2025.
