To Have and to Hold: 50 Years of Marriage and Collecting Contemporary Art

The Rubell Museum, 1100 NW 23rd St, Miami, FL 33127

This year marks several milestones: the 50th anniversary of the Rubell‘s marriage and their collection, the Foundation’s 20th anniversary and a newly published 700-page collection overview catalog titled Highlights and Artists’ Writings.

The Foundation’s first floor galleries have been given over to six solo exhibitions featuring commissioned bodies of work – some of which were created in situ – by Will Boone (b. 1982, New York), Aaron Curry (b. 1972, Texas), Lucy Dodd (b. 1981, New York), Mark Flood (b. 1957, Houston), David Ostrowski (b. 1981, Cologne) andKaari Upson (b. 1972, California).

The Foundation’s second floor looks back at the Rubells’ history of collecting, offering a loose chronology of early as well as recent acquisitions and simultaneously revealing artistic movements and cross-generational influences. Works by Marlene Dumas (b. 1953, Cape Town), Josh Kline (b. 1979, United States), Jeff Koons (b. 1955, Pennsylvania), Cindy Sherman (b. 1954, New Jersey), and many others are exhibited along with text from the artists.
