Udo Nöger: Geistlos
“When I create my work I do not sit in front of a canvas to fill it up with colors and shapes, instead I set the surface free and investigate what happens beneath the surface of my paintings, to discover an endless meaning of a complete space made of pure and absolute light.
By doing so I attempt to draw and entrap luminosity not only for the practical purpose of highlighting my compositions but also with the objective of rendering abstractions of light – the material I paint with is the light itself.
This transformation of an abstract entity into sensuous terms feels German in both a philosophical and a formal sense. The paintings turn on the paradox that something as disembodied as light can be represented physically, so that our conception of it literally has something to hold”.
