Ugo Rondinone: Miami Mountain
Miami Mountain is the latest sculpture of the series of iconic mountains by Ugo Rondinone. Considered as one of the most representative artworks of land art of the past 40 years, the sculpture has been acquired by The Bass, which – in this way – inaugurates its acquisition initiative programme. The installation is hosted at Collins Park and it will be permanently on view.
Measuring 42 feet tall, the sculpture is made of five colorful and fluorescent boulders and it deals with the mediation between geological formations and abstract compositions.
Ugo Rondinone project started in May 2016 when he realized the site-specific installation “ Seven Magic Mountains” in the desert outside Las Vegas Nevada, which is made of 35 megalithic boulders the seven columns.
Dealing with the interest in “primitive materials”, Miami Mountain establishes a dialogue between ancient and modern, tradition and innovation, representing the sublime forces of time and nature which is a recurring motif within Rondinone’s practice.
Once again, through this artwork, the artist declares its romantic interest in natural and primordial phenomena of the Earth.
