William Kentridge: More Sweetly Play the Dance
More Sweetly Play the Dance is an 8-channel video installation by the contemporary artist William Kentridge, projected on the walls of the Freedom Tower, at the MDC Museum of Art and Design. The 130-foot long video literally surrounds the viewers, providing an immersive experience augmented by the suggestive soundtrack. The film was created by Kentridge mixing both performative pieces by real actors and his animated signature style to represent a variegated procession with references to death. A series of individuals, like people carrying possessions or shrouded bodies, priests, patients dragging their IV drips, skeletons and a live ballerina proceed in the parade. The artist creates a carnivalesque reminder of mortality to celebrate resilience and life.
