Ali Hassoun: Crossover

On view are twenty works by the Italo-Lebanese artist, who explores topics which have affected his life – nomadism, cultural contamination, multiple identities and the simultaneous co-existence of different worlds in one reality. Further, he uses elements of African culture within his vibrantly colorful paintings and watercolors, as reference to his passion for this country, where part of his family still lives.

Resulting in the title of this solo show, Ali Hassoun always deals with the crossing of borders. Picturing African women, fleeing families or tightrope walkers standing out against a background of paintings that range from Andy Warhol to Capogrossi, from Picasso to Michelangelo, he visualized situations of leaping over temporal boundaries, blending and stratifying visual and cultural references.
