Anicka Yi: Metaspore

Pirelli HangarBicocca presents “Metaspore“, Anicka Yi’s first solo exhibition in Italy. The exhibition gathers together her artworks from the last two decades.

Seoul-born and New York-based artist Anicka Yi employs organic and perishable features such as tempura fried flowers, seaweed and soaps as a tool to explore the boundaries of synthetic and natural elements. Thanks to a collaboration with scientists and engineers, her research combines art and biological features with technology, aiming to investigate new possibilities of exchange between living organisms and artificial intelligence.

The exhibition features an expanded rearrangement of her installation “Biologizing the Machina (terra incognita)“, originally presented at the 58th Venice Biennale in 2019.
