Antonio Scaccabarozzi: Of space and light

Monopoli Gallery presents the exhibition “Of space and light” by Antonio Scaccabarozzi.
In this exhibition is exposed a group of researches belonging to his last few seasons.

These works are characterized by the use of colored and shaped polythene. They are individually suspended or overlapping, which evoke suggestively plants of Greek temples, places and otherwise visual situations that can involve the whole environment.
“When I found this material, polyethylene, I quickly realized that it had many characteristics which corresponded to my concept of transparency, lightness, flexibility, instability and so on. In fact, the material turned out perfect”. Antonio Scaccabarozzi

He uses translucent and opaque sheets where physical light determines highly ambiguous perceptual situations, so optical deception is the game.
The sheets are not tense in the fiction of the painted surface, but they are presented in their fragile mobile imperfect spatial condition. This is a reflection more than the enunciation and a pictorial understanding of the object as actual presence modifier: it changes the ratio of the conventional conception of painting along with that reading of the image.
This is a further reflection of the “historical monochrome enunciation”, and it is a pictorial understanding of the object as actual presence modifier: it changes the rationale conventional conception of painting and reading of the image, which tends to absorb the spectator in a situation where the analytical reflection becomes true.
