Arcangelo
The gallery presents, as its first exhibition of 2025, an important project dedicated to the artist Arcangelo. The exhibition, divided across the galleries in Milan, Turin, and Verona, showcases works from the 1990s, many of which are previously unseen, along with recent paintings created last summer in his Benevento studio. Over more than forty years, Arcangelo has reinvented expressionist painting with intense lyrical and emotional use of color. His work, initially characterized by monochrome rigor and organic materials like earth, charcoal, and pure pigments, evolved in the 1990s to include vivid greens and reds, alongside black charcoal strokes. Influenced by African landscapes he visited in 1990, his style remains defined by an amalgamation of marks, pigment accumulations, and surface textures. Arcangelo works almost without tools, using his hands and fingers to apply paint. His radical approach is rooted in a deep sense of belonging and cultural heritage, particularly from his native Sannio region, which he has transformed to include influences from Africa, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, China, and more.
