Claudia Losi: Tempo crudo

Monica De Cardenas, Via Francesco Viganò 4

Monica De Cardenas presents “tempo crudo”, a solo exhibition by Claudia Losi at the gallery in Milano. The exhibition brings together works developed over the last five years, forming an ecosystem that reflects on what “tempo crudo” (“raw time”) represents for each of us. The expression was shared with the artist by Judy Jacanamejoy Chicunque, a Colombian anthropologist, poet and activist from the Kamëntsa people of the Sibundoy Valley. In her community, “tiempo crudo” refers to a moment when all beings – living and non-living – resonate together in a time of grace.

Since the late 1990s, Claudia Losi has developed projects based on participation and relationships: collective processes built around objects, actions and texts that act as catalysts for shared experiences and memories. This approach is exemplified in “Oltre il giardino” (“Beyond the Garden”), a nearly 18-metre-long jacquard weaving composed of hundreds of images and texts collected through workshops and public calls. Initiated in 2020 as part of the project “Being There”, the work was produced and exhibited with the support of the Italian Council.

The exhibition unfolds from this collective narrative, presenting tapestries, sculptures and drawings that evoke gestures, stories and knowledge circulating across time. Drawing inspiration from forest gardening and the structure of natural ecosystems, Losi conceives the works as elements of a growing woodland. Together they form a living constellation of forms and presences.

Collectively, the works compose an ecosystem of shared stories, recurring gestures and forms that call to one another across space and time.
