Depero Space to Space: The Creation of Memory
“Depero Space to Space. The Creation of Memory”, curated by Nicoletta Boschiero and Antonio D’Amico and realised in collaboration with the Mart – Museo di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto, is presented as part of the Cultural Olympiad of Milano Cortina 2026. The exhibition reveals a surprising parallel between the barons Fausto and Giuseppe Bagatti Valsecchi and the Futurist artist Fortunato Depero: all shared the desire to inhabit spaces suspended between past and present.
“Space to Space” stages a vision in which the museum rooms become theatrical settings. The interiors filled with precious objects collected by the Bagatti Valsecchi brothers intersect with Depero’s late Futurist research, creating a dialogue between two narrative moments—nineteenth and twentieth centuries, dream and life.
If the Bagatti Valsecchi House Museum was conceived in the late nineteenth century as a Renaissance-inspired residence filled with paintings and applied arts, Depero pursued a similar ambition in the 1950s when he transformed a sixteenth-century building in Rovereto into the Casa d’Arte Futurista, integrating his works within its historic structure.
Featuring works from the 1930s to the 1950s, the exhibition brings Depero’s creations into dialogue with the museum’s permanent collection through a display designed by the Milan-based studio A-Fact. Sound interventions by Gaetano Cappa (Istituto Barlumen) further enhance the immersive atmosphere, inviting visitors into a dynamic and unexpected experience.
