Enzo Sellerio: Piccola Antologia Siciliana
After a series of important celebratory events held in Palermo on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Enzo Sellerio (1924-2012), a unique figure as a photographer-publisher, this exhibition aims to offer a small yet precious tribute to one of the most interesting Italian intellectuals of the second half of the twentieth century.
An authoritative voice of Sicilian culture, a passionate defender of civil society and the island’s identity values, a point of reference for many other photographers, artists, scholars, and writers, he breaks traditional visual stereotypes about Sicily to instead reveal to both Italian and foreign audiences the more realistic, symbolic, and contradictory aspects of the society and culture of his island.
Sellerio portrayed other places and people, especially intellectuals and artists, from cities around the world where he traveled and lived (Amsterdam, Hamburg, Madrid, Moscow, Rome, Milan, Paris, San Francisco, New York), but this exhibition of photographs is specifically dedicated to his major works in Sicily.
