Etruschi del Novecento

The Mart and the Fondazione Luigi Rovati present Etruschi del Novecento: a major exhibition project exploring the influence of Etruscan culture on modern and contemporary artists. Two exhibitions in two cities: from 7 December to 16 March in Rovereto, and from 2 April to 3 August in Milan.

For the first time, the Mart and the Fondazione Luigi Rovati offer a comprehensive view of the vast and complex phenomenon of the rediscovery of Etruscan civilisation in the last century, through a project in two distinct and complementary stages, from early December 2024 to early August 2025, curated by a single team.

In the two exhibitions, visual arts engage in dialogue with applied and graphic arts: from painting to goldsmithing, through sculpture, documenting the return of forms, techniques, and materials such as painted terracotta, metals, wall and vase painting, and bucchero (the traditional black ceramic used by the Etruscans to make vases). The comparisons between ancient and modern are explored in detail through photographic reproductions, publications, and a valuable selection of extraordinary archaeological pieces.
