Franco Grignani: Subperception

10 A.M. ART, Corso San Gottardo 5, 20136, Milan

10 A.M Art gallery in Milan presents the exhibition Subperception by the multifaceted and innovative artist Franco Grignani (1908-1999), the exhibition focuses on the artist’s photographic practice with which he was particularly prolific in the 1950s. The curator Marco Meneguzzo has chosen 20 works with which the artist explores the linguistic possibilities of the medium of photography and it’s potential towards abstraction.

Marco Meneguzzo writes, “Subperception” is “a subliminal vision that exploits the ‘lateral’ capacities of the mind when observing the work. Photography, utilised according to secret and jealously guarded empiricisms, and always for regular or distorted, anamorphic or repetitive abstract surfaces, in this way becomes the equivalent of an outline, an initial sketch of the work, but at the same time it is also its essence. For this reason, in the show there will be exhibited painted surfaces derived from photographic experiments, emulsified canvases of extreme rarity and of a large size, besides numerous genuinely conspicuous photos, signed by the artist, that testify to his meticulous search for the most interesting ‘variant’ in a black and white world”.

The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue published by 10 A.M art in both Italian and English, with an essay by Marco Meneguzzo which concentrates on Franco Grignani’s photographic practice.
