On the occasion of his first solo exhibition in Italy, artist Gideon Rubin presents a selection of paintings, portraying human figures captured in everyday activities. The characters are rendered without their facial features, inviting viewers to fill in the gaps with their memories. Thus, they are impressed not by these figures’ physiognomies but their surrounding atmospheres. Rubin collects images from magazines and old photographies to use them as an archive for his paintings, reappropriating others’ memories and stories.
