Giovanni Campus: Tempo e passione
“Tempo e passione. A Tribute to the Artist (1929–2025)”, is an exhibition dedicated to Giovanni Campus a few months after his passing. Curated by Marco Meneguzzo, the exhibition arises from the intention to acknowledge a rigorous and consistent artistic practice within the Italian contemporary art scene.
Through a selection of emblematic works installed across the gallery’s ground and first floors, the exhibition highlights an essential visual language based on the relationship between time, space and sign. As noted by the curator, in recent years “Tempo in processo” (Time in Process) becomes a recurring title in the artist’s works, actions and exhibitions, reflecting a conception of time as a process connected to human experience. The sculptural practice is understood as inherently processual, involving action and collective participation, where the artist operates as a catalyst of forces and sculpture emerges as a shared endeavour.
The exhibition also functions as a tribute from Milan, the city where the artist settles in the 1960s and works for over fifty years. It includes photographic documentation of “Intervento. installazione” (1977), an action in the square in front of Palazzo Reale, where large steel springs are introduced into the urban space, engaging with the surrounding architecture and altering the perception of the environment while activating a dynamic and symbolic field.
